Oct 3, 2015 9:20 AM in response to JimInIllinoisby JimInIllinois,Tried removing and reinstalling iTunes and related software and still get the "an invalid response was received from the device." message for an ancient iPod Touch after upgrading to iTunes 12.3.0.44 on Windows 7. The iPod connects to a MacBook Air with an older iTunes fine using the same cable and I've tried two USB ports on the PC.

Oct 3, 2015 6:53 PM in response to JimInIllinoisby JimInIllinois,I finally got my iPod to sync again by downgrading to the previous version of iTunes!
First, follow directions at Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support to remove iTunes and related components and restart the computer.
Then download iTunes 12.2.2.25 from the links at the bottom of http://www.redmondpie.com/download-itunes-12.2.2-for-windows-and-mac-os-x/ (the link for Windows 64-bit is https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/itunes12/031-31877-20150813-B245948E-41B7-11E5 -A7F4-910D11BA098F/iTunes6464Setup.exe). I can't find this link anywhere on apple's website.
When installing iTunes uncheck the box to automatically update so it doesn't try to re-install the broken version.
Everything is back to normal and there don't seem to be any issues from having the music library modified by a newer version of iTunes.

Windows 10 advises you join something called groove which stores all your music on it's cloud then download the app from iTunes.
I tried all of this and it still doesn't work!!!
Apple/Microsoft... come on guys & gals get this sorted please it is frustrating a lot of your customers, i'm due I phone upgrade soon was thinking of a IPhone 6s but now thinking of going with an android phone if I can't get this sorted!!!!

Oct 20, 2015 7:24 AM in response to kdasaby fkirsh,I was struggling with the same problem until an Apple employee finally fixed it! The key is to completely uninstall ALL aspects of Itunes before reinstall. Go through your program list and there is about four different programs that need to be uninstalled including Bonjour ects.

Nov 15, 2015 4:23 AM in response to PHDKby Bruce PopPop,I was having this problem since the September iTunes and IOS updates and was dealing with it with a work around that I had found here by letting the troubleshooter in Windows Control Panel / Devices for my iPhone recognize my iPhone in Windows Explorer.
AND THEN last week Microsoft pushed the Tuesday Monthly updates out one of which hosed my Outlook. Microsoft reissued the KB in the early morning hours of last Wednesday and my Outlook troubles were fixed. What I did notice was that my Temp directory was filling up with MSI*.Log files and found the Event Viewer wasn't running because the service would not start. I chased this around for most of yesterday then found a fix for the Log files / Event Viewer Problem. Somehow my Windows/system32/LogFiles/WMI/RtBackup subdirectory had lost SYSTEM permissions. Found this out from a web search that restoring the SYSTEM permissions to that sub-directory fixed the LOG files and Event Viewer problem.
This morning I started iTunes and when I plugged in my iPhone it was once again showing in Windows Explorer without having to run the Device troubleshooter. Thought maybe it as a fluke and disconnected my iPhone, shutdown iTunes and powered off the PC.
When I powered the PC back on, started iTunes and plugged the iPhone back in the iPhone was showing again in Windows Explorer.
Not sure why the permissions changes to that sub-directory would have to do with the iPhone not showing in Windows Explorer, but thought I would share what I went through

Nov 25, 2015 12:59 PM in response to PHDKby 1nemo1,I have windows 7 and an Ipod that wasn't recognized by Itunes.
After wasting hours uninstalling, reinstalling and rebooting and getting no results, it turns out that the problem was caused by my Ipod device not having been assigned a drive letter. It was an easy fix to do, as per the 2 articles below. It just wasn't an easy fix to find.

Apr 23, 2016 10:12 AM in response to PHDKby lgreski,I just purchased a new laptop for my wife, and we were not able to see her iPhone in iTunes 12. The usual diagnostics are:
1) Check the cable -- works fine with the iPhone on a Macbook, no problem here
2) Check whether the device is visible in Windows 10 -- able to access iPhone disk from File Manager, device listed as "Apple iPhone"
3) Check whether iPhone is using Apple Mobile Device USB Driver -- FAILED, device was loaded with a Microsoft driver and therefore inaccessible in iTunes.
SOLUTION: follow directions under Manually Update Apple Mobile USB Device Driver from the following Apple Support page: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204095.
Device is now visible in iTunes.
regards,
Len
