i bought a dell S2715h monitor and connected it ot my macbook air. but the resolution on the macbook air is only showing it at a max of 1440x900
1900x1080 is not even an option to display it at.
why is that

Not sure what model of your MacBook Air, though you might check off mirroring connection. Uncheck it may be the solution.

i already did. I am using a HDMI to mini display port adapter to the macbook air
this is 10.10.4 yosemite
this is all i see.
i changed my video adapter to vga and now I see different resolution options. left side is vga options. right side is hdmi options.
but still I do not see 1900x1080
