IPhone 6 is not recognized on MacBook

My Macbook with OS X 10.5.8 does not recognize my iphone 6. I've been told I need to update. I'm looking for exact instructions on what version I need to update to and how to do this (disks, codes,etc). Also then do I need to update Itunes? I want to be able able to sync my music to my phone. If there is a different way to sync this music without having to spend money to update, let me know. But if not, I'd like to make sure I am doing the exact right thing to be able to connect the Mac and Iphone. Thanks for your help!

Hi, I'm fairly certain you need a later OSX & iTunes version to connect them, 10.6 is the required next step.

Sadly I don't know if the max OSX you can do is enough...

Pre-Installed MacOS:X 10.5.2 (9C2015)Maximum MacOS:X 10.7.5*

Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...

General requirements

* Mac computer with an Intel processor

* 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)

* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)

* DVD drive for installation

* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
