Oct 16, 2015 10:28 AM in response to Jagspecialby utahsnowflake,Interestingly this started happening to me immediately after I reset my phone for another issue. My Siri is already on, so it looks like Siri might not be the root of this issue. It happens with EVERY single app opening, sometimes I have to launch the app 2 or 3 times before it'll stay on the screen. The worst is when I have an incoming phone call and the screen is black. Pushing any buttons on the outside silences or hangs up. This is frustrating when trying to communicate with my clients!

Oct 16, 2015 10:37 AM in response to utahsnowflakeby buzzlightyr,Sorry to hear that. My iPhone remains free of this problem (it hasn't returned in ~1 week) so it's clear that _something_ will make it go away. For me that was turning Siri on, manually, in settings. Well, iOS 9.1 can't be that far away ...

Oct 16, 2015 5:41 PM in response to Jgomezchby jrhepner,I am going to ditto Jgomezch:
People stop saying it's happening to me, you're just clogging up the thread.
Here's some additional information that can be useful for apple and other users.
I purchased 2 iPhone 6s Pluses.
My wife's, I restored from a previous iphone.
Mine I did a clean setup (ie. not from a restore).
I don't experience the issue but my wife experiences the blank screen with trying to launch an app. On her phone I'll close all open apps and do a hard reset (or just a power cycle). What's strange is when I restart the phone, all of the background applications are still open. I mentioned this to my wife and she said, "I thought that was strange, especially since I've never used Pandora on this phone". However, every time I restart or hard restart the phone, Pandora is open in the background.
I am willing to bet that with all of the restores that people have done, they didn't close out of all their apps, and these will also show up in the background if you do a hard reset or a power cycle.
I will be doing a clean install for my wife and I'll post back in a few days if this fixes the issue.

Oct 17, 2015 6:03 AM in response to flyhardby claudio971,I had the same issue: screen was becoming black when opening a new app. This hapened after installing an iOS9 patch.
I solved it rebooting the iPhone (home + power button pushed together fo ca. 10 seconds

Oct 17, 2015 11:20 AM in response to jrhepnerby cirusc02,I've tried a hard rest. Even closing all background apps and doing the Rest or Restore from iTunes. Enabling Siri or change the auto brightness does not fix the issue. This happens to any and all apps that I try to open. Settings, Camera, Photos, or even apps that I installed. None of this happened before the iOS9 install. My battery lasts almost 3 days with light usage. Also, I do not leave my cell data on, so Siri will not make voice calls. I drive a lot and need to make voice calls, and no I will not leave me data on. Further more, my 5S will start with the black screen before I ever use the voice call. if I leave the app open in the back it will work fine.
As for the battery recall, they don't have any 5s with 64gb to replace mine with.

Oct 18, 2015 9:59 AM in response to Jagspecialby ChristopherWeiss,I found the only way to get rid of this very annoying problem -> reset the phone and reinstall all your apps fresh. It was very frustrating, but it was the only thing that worked. Rebooting and powering off was very temporary. Selectively deleting and reinstall apps didn't help. Since starting fresh, no more black screen.
If you restore from backup or "upgrade" the problem, once you have it, never goes away unless you wipe and start over.

Oct 18, 2015 12:07 PM in response to ChristopherWeissby Carrita,I stopped at a Mac store recently and they said it was an app crash. They said you had to restore to default (don't restore from backup) and then reinstall all the apps manually. They said the things synced with iCloud would come back as long as you had them set to synch, but the apps would have to be installed manually. If you restore from backup you will just bring the problem back in.

Oct 18, 2015 10:00 PM in response to Jagspecialby Kevin_ault,Last night I erased all the content on my Iphone 6 (64g) and reinstalled the software and only the basic apps. Today everything worked well until about 6 pm. Then I opened an random app - black.
It is a consistent problem - the first time I open any app, it goes black. The second time, I try, the app opens. This is ridiculous.

Oct 18, 2015 10:04 PM in response to Jagspecialby buzzlightyr,Well folks,
I've got two posts on here that talk about how my problem went away when I turned Siri to "on" manually under Settings, and then did a soft reset. It has not returned since (and it's been about a week). I suppose it's possible that this was a coincidence, and that some other change (app deletion, update, or re-install) may have been responsible for making it go away.
In any case, for me the problem has just disappeared, and I didn't need to do a complete fresh install of apps or anything else.
This is clearly an odd one. Hoping 9.1 fixes all of this soon.

Oct 19, 2015 3:55 PM in response to Jagspecialby Pmer09,Solution:
- Connect your iPhone to your computer and back it up.
- Use iTunes to restore your phone back to factory settings.
The reason why you're experiencing this issue is because there was a bug when you installed the update via wifi. It happens sometimes. I was suffering with the same issue for about 2 weeks and had a senior advisor walk me through this.
Good luck! Hope this helps.

Oct 19, 2015 5:12 PM in response to cirusc02by Joe Schwartz,I skeptically tried the turn Siri on fix. It worked.
I had already done countless hard restarts and even a clean install. None of that worked.
So far so good.

I don't/didn't have this issue myself on my iPhone 5s and iPad mini2 btw.
