Q: iPhone 6 updated to ios9 screen goes black when I open an app

i recently updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 9. Every time I open an app now the screen goes black and I have to push the home button and click on the app again for it to work. Any fix ideas?

Hello all.  After trying many of the suggestions on here over the last few days to no avail, I chatted with apple support to find a solution.  They suggested a force restart (hold down home key and power button until apple icon shows up).  After which, my apps stopped going to the black screen.  I was a bit skeptical at first, so I made and received a phone call but the apps are still working.  Will try to remember to let you know if I experience any changes.  Good luck to you all

for me no solution worked longer than 1-2 days. the problem always came again. neither the hardreset nor for example the zoom thing ( standard-extended) worked finally. also i was not able to reproduce the error with the given situations.

i think we need a for everyone reproduceable workflow.

This is occurring on my new 128GB iPhone 6s Plus running 9.0.1.  The braindead "solution" from AppleCare is to wipe iPhone, restore from backup.  Which does precisely zero aside from wasting several hours.  Remote diagnostics show no problems.  There are NUMEROUS folks on these support pages experiencing this problem across a variety of iPhone iterations running iOS 9.

I did NOT have this issue on my 128GB iPhone 6 running iOS 9 nor on 9.0.1."

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------

    1) Any "solution" is limited to a day, or two, max.

    2) Black screen problem seems to manifest itself after bluetooth connected phone-related use.

    3) Once it begins to happen, the problem seems to occur 100% of the time when opening an app that isn't already open in the background.

    4) I can force the black screen problem by opening an unopened app, after hitting home button, the app will open normally.  I can then fully close the app in the background.  When reopening the app, black screen.

Seems to be a software issue that is triggered with bluetooth phone use that later affects apps that are unopened in the background.  It may happen with apps that are already open, as well, I've just noticed that I can make it happen every time using unopened apps.

Also, I never used a hands-free blue tooth connection with prior iPhone 6 that did not have the issue per my original post above.

Hopefully, someone from Apple can use this as a starting point.

@saunderscc: Thanks for the summary. Agree 100% with the exception of the phone model.

For me, the issue only occurred on an iPhone5 (my wife's of course).   I was able to downgrade Sunday evening (Sept 27th) to 8.4.1.   Now the phone is functioning correctly (both with Bluetooth calling and apps starting up).  When calling over Bluetooth, using Voice Control, did you get a call disconnected message, but the call wasn't disconnected, it went through?  That's what was happening with my wife's phone on multiple Bluetooth hands-free units.

My wife's faith in Apple upgrades was poor before the upgrade.  Now she never wants to upgrade again.

    @Saunderscc thanks for the summary.

Its exactly what I seem to be seeing on my phone.

I removed the Bluetooth profiles and the phone seemed to work normally. I re-added my hands free profile when I got into my car to drive home and the problem seems to have returned.

it does seem to be related to Bluetomoth hands free profiles.

Please patch these bugs: Opening everything twice is borderline insane and restarting the phone every time is usually a Window's thing not Apple.

I have the same black screen issue when launching anything... This issue happens with non-running apps which also includes going to settings and the phone. All "running" apps that have been pre-launched will display normally when re-opening the app.  Also, the keyboard is missing when responding to new text messages which requires me to open the text twice before I'm able to respond.

    128GB 6S

    IOS 9.01

This was setup as a new phone and I didn't restore from a backup.

    Same issue here..

I received my iphone 6s plus 64gb today.

In the beginning i got it set up as new, then realized it had the ios 9 and not ios 9.0.1 update .. So i put it in DFU mode and installed the ios 9.0.1 from the iClarified ipsw that i had downloaded.

Then again "set up as new" and installed aboun 15 basic apps that i use before going to work and left the other apps to install them later.

    LETS GET TO THE PROBLEM

I am a taxi driver and am using a bluetooth headset all the time.

When i am opening ANY app that has never been opened before (in order to be running in the background when i hit the home button twice) this app opens and immediatelly i see the black screen. Then i press home button to get to the homescreen and tap again on the app. The app works just fine. If i leave the app running on the background im ok when i need to open it again. If i swipe up and delete the app from the background same thing (black screen) happens when i try to open it.

This is happening with every single app on the phone and i dont know if it is "call related".

My phone does not get fixed through the hard reset and

EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION BECAUSE AFTER HARD RESETING YOUR PHONE , THE APPS YOU HAD OPENED BEFORE ARE STILL ON THE BACKROUND SO THIS IS WHY YOU MAY THINK THIS IS SOLVED.

Hope it get fixed because it is super annoying.

@Waterdowner I have not experienced the call dropped but not dropped issue."

    --------------------------------------------

I take this back.  On the way home, I experienced exactly this problem.  Bluetooth device said disconnected while waiting for call to go through.  Call then went normally.

I randomly heard my bluetooth saying phone 1 disconected which had never happened before in my 6 plus with ios 8.4

I found one more thing about the black screen problem, the only app that can be opened normally from the beginninig is WALLET app!

    the only one...

I've been having this problem and I went to the Apple Store and was told to reset the settings. Did it twice because it worked once and happened again and again. I did the second update to 9.1 and it stopped for a while (2wks) but it's doing it again!! HELP!!! Super annoying! My phone is only 5months old!
