Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
After updating my windows 7 laptop to itunes 12.3.0.44 my ipod cannot connect and sync.
When I plug into the laptop usb port itunes does not respond. ipod screen shows connected as normal
Have reset the ipod and made no difference.
iPod classic, Windows 7
Press WinLogoKey+R to open a run dialog, then type in services.msc and press enter/return. If you don't find the iPod Service listed then repair or reinstall iTunes.
Some AV programs, Norton in particular at the present time, may hinder or block communications with the device.

I'm having this problem on win 8.
1 I updated to 12.3
2 the laptop can see the iPod- but iTunes does not
3 I have no problem syncing my iPhone to iTunes - the only problem is with the iPod
4 the iPod screen shows itself as connected
5 it can't be Norton AV or other programs since the phone syncs well
Can someone give me advice on either:
1 fixing this
OR
2 rolling back to iTunes update - which I now deeply regret installing

iOS devices connect via Apple Mobile Device Support, older devices use the iPod Service. If you have Norton then try disabling it and see if iTunes is able to update the iPod.

Turingtest2 - thanks for the swift reply. I should have been more clear. I do not have Norton at all.

What antivirus or firewall packages do you use?

Hi, anyone still struggling to connect -- all other suggestion did not work for me.
I found this piece in Apple Help -- bit like searching for the Holy Grail!!
Basically you restart the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. (This worked for me and I am on Norton with no problems.)

2 both the ipod Service and the apple mobile device services are running

I uninstalled the iTunes update and reverted back to 12.1.3.6.
The older version of iTunes immediately saw my iPod and so 'problem solved'
Except now that older version is also no longer seeing the iPod. The pod there and visible in "This PC" and shows as connected on its screen. It just doesn't appear in iTunes.
After update to 12.3.0.44 ipod will not connect or sync
