Q: Mac Messages not syncing with iphone

Hi there,

I was wondering can someone help me.

I recently got a new Macbook Pro. I cant seem to get my messages/imessages to sync from my iPhone onto my Macbook Pro. I have done the password thing to allow my Macbook to receive messages and all that stuff. Have i missed a step somewhere?

Thanks, Conor

    Hi,

    The Steps in short.

Turn Messages On on the iPhone  (it can now send iMessages but only form the iPhone Number plus SMS messages to non Apple iPhones).

ON the Mac version add an Apple ID to the iMessages account. (It can now send iMessages from the Apple ID)

Add the Apple ID to the iPhone Settings > Messages > Send and Receive.

The two should now sync from this point on (And not earlier ones received on either device).

To Forward/Sync SMS/Text Messages you have to enable this on the iPhone ( Settings > Messages > Text Forwarding).

Setting this will cause a code number to appear on the Mac which in turn needs to be entered back on the iPhone.

The iPhone needs to be on the same LAN as the Mac (which normally means it is WiFi on your Home network)

The SMS or text Messages should now show on the Mac and you should be able to send SMS messages from the Mac when the iPhone Is On and connected to the Carrier and near the Mac (on the Same LAN).

    Hello Ralph.

I find that my messages do sync between my iPhone and my Mac Pro BUT ONLY when my Mac is running and the Messages app is open. When they are not any messages sent or received on my iPhone do not show up on my Mac. I did the Apple ID setup some time ago and this is my experience.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Jim

    Hi,

I must admit to finding the same thing myself.

I am not sure if apple have presumed that for other things like Find my Phone or Back to my Mac that Macs are supposed to be On all the time now.

I certainly only have mine on when I am using them (Mostly as the G4 Mirrored Doors still sounds like a hover).

I am not sure why the change has happened.

I can't seem to identify a trigger. (other than the suggestion above)

I know lots of people were complaining about the amount of dismissing of iMessages they had already read elsewhere and this might be an effort to stop that.

It seems a bit daft though, as people also want to use the better storage space on the Mac to Save Chats.

As you can see I have suggestions but no answers for this one.
