Several Possible Solutions for Slide to Upgrade Problem
Here is Apple’s suggested fix: If the Slide to Upgrade screen won't go away after you update to iOS 9 - Apple Support.
Here's another person's suggestion: How to backup photos from bricked iPhone (slide to upgrade) after upgrading to iOS 9.
Here are two YouTube video suggestions you can try:
How To Fix '' Slide To Upgrade '' Stuck - ios 9 - YouTube
#IOS9 Bug - Slide To Upgrade / Apple Fix It - YouTube
If you have no success with the above then sign into your iCloud.com page, click on the Find My Phone icon. Click the Devices button, click on your device’s item, then remove if from the list if it is inactive. If your device is active when you click on it, then click on the Erase icon on the bottom right of your device’s displayed window. You should then try this:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
* If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
6. Use iTunes to restore the device as New.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

3. Keep holding home button down until you see the 'Connect to ITunes' icon appear.
4. Connect to ITunes and restore.

Sep 23, 2015 4:10 AM in response to Birchyballsby spider2711,Hiya
My iPad Air was dead. I even saw a flash of the blue screen of death. I followed the advice to put into recovery mode (Kappy above) and I am so pleased to say it worked. I had never backed up to 'that' computer so I was expecting to restore from iCloud but after signing into Paddie my stuff just started appearing bit by bit. I'm well happy as with over 1500+ apps my 128 was pretty full, I can choose what apps to put on now - leaving off OODate ones. So...... persevere Birchyballs.
How I Did it...... words they display may be different its just how I best remember it.
Open iTunes. Do the turn off - both buttons for me as no red slider just constant logo. When I heard the blup (my computers noise) I got iTunes out task bar and it said iPad in Restore Mode did I want to Restore (to factory settings but IOS9) said yes ticked couple boxes. It downloaded software took ages lost my Wi-Fi twice! Then it waited for Paddie to respond, nail biting moment took forever, finally the line on Paddie started to move. Be patient. It was fantastic to see all my notes, contacts, apps etc appear bit by bit. IOS9 is pretty cool. Don't loose hope. Get restore as you don't have to respond on iPad it just does it. I did let the battery down completely hoping for a restart miracle but didn't work. MAKE sure you charge long enuf first - you cant see battery level so don't chance it turning off half way thru. Good Luck 2 u all xx
