This is a common thing with iOS 9. It has happened before with other iOS releases but it's more prevalent now. I've seen posts about VW, BMW, Subaru, Ford, Chevy (specifically Volt), Kia, GM, and there are probably others. What needs to happen is for the vehicle manufacturer or the head unit supplier needs to release an update to their system. Apple releases beta versions of their new iOS months before final release to the public. During that time, manufacturers and developers are expected to update their systems/software to work with the changes. If the manufacturer decides not to do this then there is little to nothing that the end user can do about it. They can talk to the manufacturer and urge them to release updates to their system. But based on other posts and stories I've read, most manufacturers seem very unwilling to work on developing or changing their systems on older vehicles and focus only on new systems.
