How to turn off swipe to go back in safari

EVer since the newest update, the swipe to go back feature in Safari has gotten a lot more sensitive on my iPod touch. If I slide my fingers anywhere near the edges of the screen it activates it and sometimes, even if I'm not near the edges at all. Is there a way to just turn this navigation feature off? It makes sense to have it on the iPhone 6, which has a bigger screen size but on the iPod it is just super annoying.
