Software upgrade

I finally decided to upgrade my software despite knowing everyone I know had problems with their phone when they upgraded. My 4S is completely locked now on a white screen that says "slide to upgrade", and it doesn't allow me to slide at all. Please help!

iPhone 4S, iOS 9

If the Slide to Upgrade screen won't go away after you update to iOS 9 - Apple Support

I suspect this means you may not have a backup of your iPhone.
