Q: Text message notifications on iOS 9 not recognising contacts

Since upgrading to iOS 9, any text message notifications seem to appear with the number rather than a contact name, but if i open the message app they are listed against the correct contact name.

This means that no custom text notifications are working either as the notification doesn't seem to be able to link the number to the contact record. It seems to work for iMessage, but anything sent as a normal text comes through as a number not the stored contact. I've tried the usual - reboot, switching off dial assist etc, but none of that has made a difference. I've also tried making sure the contact record has the same format as the number showing in the notification (e.g. with +44 in front) but that hasn't helped either.  Can anyone help?

Same problem for me ever since iOS 9 update, but for some reason only a few contacts an not all, I would have thought after the various tweek updates they'd have sorted it, it's embarrassing that an iPhone 6 can't tell you who the message is from!!!!!

    Hey everyone!

I've been experiencing the same issue on my iPhone 6 Plus since upgrading to iOS 9 (currently on 9.0.2).

big thanks to , your guide worked for me (only tested it with one contact for now)

    1) Turned Off iMessage,

    2) Turned iMessage back on

    3) Facetime a friend (anyone with Facetime will do), end call.

    and its working!

Yes, I have fixed my issue, I went over to Android . Bloody loving it, just waiting for my MBPR and Imac replacements to turn up as well. Had enough of Crapple Crap, so left them. Good luck to you all with you over priced substandard guff ..

I'm also having this problem (I'm on O2 and does seem just to affect non-iMessage contacts - and not all of them) and nothing is fixing it so far.  Waiting patiently (!!?) for Apple to fix it with an update.

I would also like to add my voice to the people affected. Mine is doing it sporadically as well, just showing numbers on my notifications, but names in the message thread. I've tried clearing my contacts and re-adding them using iCloud - it doesn't seem to cure it.

And for the record, I have an iPhone 6 and am on the EE network - so definitely not restricted to any one network.

It may well be worth having a thread somewhere where people can just comment yes to this issue, just so we can see how many people are effected, 90% of people I know on IOS9 are having this issue, even those who bought their new phones new with IOS9 installed. It does however seem to be effecting those who upgraded the most. Makes me think Apple are at it again, upgrade your phone and turn it into a brick. I would love to say if they aren't careful they will fail, but a company this size and wealthy, it will never happen ..

At the very least, try to report it using their Feedback tool, so they can't use the excuse that they didn't know… http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

The more people that do this, perhaps the quicker they'll listen? (Optimist?)

I have done this, I just hope others do too. They are reluctant to admit anything on the phone. 2 updates in such quick concession shows they know they have issues..

I've also reported it. Not sure it'll make any difference, though.

Just adding my name to the list of people affected. I've reported it, too.

Can't believe it's not been resolved yet, very poor service.

These are some of the things that they tried..

settings>general>language&region and make sure everything is correct there

    Then

Settings>general>reset> reset network connections 'you will lose all saved wifi passwords'

    lastly

settings>iCloud> turn off contacts, when asked keep on iPhone, then turn back on and merge contacts again.

None of which worked for me but maybe might for one of you guys..

I think we just need to accept that there are issues with their software and just have to hope they will sort it. I do not have high hopes though. A company this rich treating those who got them there like this is appalling. Become a shareholder, they will bend over backward for you then.
