Q: iPAD frozen after upgrade to ios9

I received a message on iTunes that new software is available for my iPAD 2,1. So I initiated the install. The web page immediately said congratulations you have successfully installed iOS 9 even though the download had not yet begun. After the download, on the iPad, I was prompted to "Slide to upgrade" which I did. After a while it said something like "congratulations you have successfully .... just setting some things up ..." After 12 hours my iPAD is still frozen with a slide to upgrade message so I went back to iTunes and tried Check for Upgrade - it said My iPad software is up to date with iOS 9 installed. So now I try to back it up ready for a restore (So that I do not lose my files) - another 12 hours and it is still frozen, so now I try to restore my iPAD from iTunes and it now reports - "Find my iPAD must be turned off on iPAD before restore can be done ...." But of course I cannot turn that off because my iPAD is still frozen with the message "slide to upgrade displayed. Now I try to restart the iPAD from the power switch but after entering the password it always ends up frozen on the "Slide to upgrade" message. I'd appreciate any help that can be offered. ITunes is not offering any help (no buttons left to be pressed) and my iPAD is frozen.

Hi. Check the solution here(follow all the steps carefully): If the Slide to Upgrade screen won't go away after you update to iOS 9 - Apple Support

I've also followed the link "If the Slide to Upgrade screen won't go away after you update to iOS 9 - Apple Support" But this doesn't help - I cannot backup because the iPAD has not completed setup. I cannot Restore because it says I have to turn "Find my iPAD" off - I cant because the iPad is frozen.

An APPLE remark says this bug will be fixed soon - When? My iPAD is completely unusable.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

I finally found a fix.  The link takes you to instructions on how to reset your iPad in recovery mode.  Once you are almost finished, you will have the option to restore from the cloud or restore from factory settings.  I did factory settings since I can recover data from my mac.  The iPad is working great again.

Thanks to the guys who have tried to help. But so far nothing has worked. My iPad is still frozen and totally unusable. I have work files on there which I cannot access. I guess I have no choice but to wait for the next iOS release. There is nothing special about my iPAD 2 and it does not have many apps on it. This iOS 9 release has clearly not been tested for this configuration, as this is a fundamental problem. It would be useful if APPLE could give some indication of when a solution to this problem will be released.

    Problems solved.

my iPhone 6 has no more issues.

my iPad Air 2 has no more issues - but I lost all of my books and notes on iAnnotate. I had to manually transfer all of my PDF textbooks from my Mac Book Pro using Air Drop which did not have any of the edits from reading/studying these on my iPad these past 6 months. Very disappointing.

Here is how I resolved everything:

    In General Settings:

turned off "Handoff and Suggested Apps"

    turned off "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync"

    In Privacy:

    turned off "Location Services"

    in iCloud:

    Turned off "iCloud Drive"

    Turned off "Photos"

    Turned off "Backup"

    Turned off "Keychain"

    Turned off "Find my iPad"

I left on: "Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Safari and Notes"

    in App & iTunes Stores:

Turned off "Automatic Downloads" for everything

    in "News" App: Off

In essence, I had to tell my iPad to stop connecting and searching for Apple's iCloud features that are supposedly built to "help me", but in actuality are meant for Apple to collect my data to sell and market to me.  Just like Windows, they are not happy we bought their devices: they want more of our money. Greedy buggers.

my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 do everything manually via USB Cable when I feel like doing them and only when I push them.  I am in control of my devices again, the ones I shelled out mucho bucks. They are my devices, Apple. I bought them. Keep your paws off of them
