Q: iOS 9 Push Notification Problems

After installing iOS 9 the push notifications for apps like whatsapp are not working correctly.

No sound or vibrate when I get a message? which is rather annoying.

Also when I take a photo inside the app the volume for the music drops to zero.

I have a 6+ and a 6 and they both have the same problems.

Anyone know if someone is working on a fix?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9, null

I have this problem too! I just downloaded another mail application because I got tired of updating new mails manually. I really liked the default mail app so I was so disappointed. It was working really great until I updated to iOS9

I also paid for some app and it just stopped notifying me. I uninstalled and reinstalled but it's still the same !!!

I regret updating to iOS9... seriously what's going on??

Contact Apple Support.  Let them do what they're getting paid to do.

    Hi Philly_Phan,

i contacted apple support but it was disappointing experience, I was on call for many hours and multiple times, tried all that the suggested(re-installing, recovery mode etc etc,, but they are not taking it forward proactively to the testing team and development team saying notifications needs a thorough re look. They told me to wait for 9.1, and issue still persists, never the less , i will try calling them again.

    Thanks a lot

I was having the same issues with the gmail app and the BBM app.  9.1 seems to have fixed both.  Getting sound notifications for each.

I am having the same trouble with Mail.  I don't seem to be getting notification of new messages. I just noticed however that the settings for Notifications-->Mail appears to have been set to "none" for each of my mail accounts.  Toggling them back on appears to have fixed the issue.

The question is why were they toggled off...seemingly on their own.

Same problem here. Some times I have to switch the airplane mode on and then off to regain trully access to networks

Was like my phone was connected, but was blocked or idle (sleep).

It's annoying and remembers me the issues I had with android system.

Two days ago we just turned in our 6SPlus for a new one because the phone was constantly crashing.  The "crashing" one, however, was getting push notifications for e-mail.  The replacement phone does not!  Also, the day we got the replacement phone, iOS 9.2 became available and we updated to it (from 9.1).  Can't say (because we didn't notice one way or the other) if the replacement phone was getting push notifications using 9.1.  I have a call in to a supervisor at Apple support, but I am not optimistic.

As mentioned earlier in my post, I had problem with notifications mainly with whatsapp and other internet based chat messengers, I tried 9.2 and looks like notifications are working better now. However if there are consecutive messages then it rings for the first 1 and not for the subsequent messages. As the update had also mentioned about locked screen notifications, looks like its better now if not perfect.

I spent 45 minutes with a Manager and a techy at the Apple store.  They were unable to fix the issue and seemed unaware that this even is a widespread issue at all!  Is there a viable mechanism for getting to someone in authority at Apple to address the problem?

    1. I Was on call for many hours on multiple occasions (wasted my weekends) with the manage. Tried various things suggested by them.  Finally told them to convey this issue to the testing team for thorough testing and get it fixed. After that I don't know if they have really done it. Very disappointed that basic notifications are not tested properly.
