Q: IPAD frozen in "slide to upgrade" after installing IOS 9. Cant restore form Laptop or iCloud because message says i need to turn off "find my device" on iPad. I turned off all devices via ICloud but still get same message. Can anyone help?

Having problem after IOS 9 install. There are other comments on the community page that suggest fixes. However my problem is unique in that I can't even restore the backup for my iPad in ICloud on my iPad because I keep getting message saying I must turn off find my device on IPAD before i can use restore feature. As advised by Apple support, I went into iCloud and turned off the "Find my" features on all devices, but still getting same message that I can't restore until I turn off that feature on the device that i cannot open. frustrating. Apple support was unable to give any info on when this glitch will be fixed so I have an expensive iPad that is worthless right now, not to mention I need it for my work. I am/was a long time Apple user but am rethinking my loyalty at this point.

Very disappointed

Hold the power button and the home button at the same time until you see the apple logo

Thanks Tonyisit and mychinita, but neither of those did the trick as, even when I was able to get back to "apple screen" I could not restore because I kept getting  message that I had to turn off find my phone on IPAD, which I couldn't turn off because IPAD kept freezing. Turned off Find my phone via i cloud from all devices but still kept getting same message and results. Finally with help of Apple support tech, was able to bypass Apple screen and reset device as brand new. Thank goodness I had backup on Laptop but still couldn't use restore (IOS 9Glitch). Instead I had to synch all apps, music, and data which took over 2 hours. I am very appreciative for Apple Tech's help. But I will never again download any new updates until they have proven all the glitches are worked out. Very frustrating for someone whose IPAD is vital for work I do.

Took about 14 tries after turning off Find My iPhone via iCloud.com to complete the upgrade my iPad 3 via iTunes on my MacBook Pro.

iTunes had to download the update and "Restore" it to the iPad. The frozen screen would not abate any other way, nor was I able to restore my backup and just disregard the update altogether.

However, once the update finally took ... I was given the choice to restore with a backup or set up the iPad as new. Not really a choice, because though iTunes could see that my iPad was attached? My iPad gave me an error, which said that sync wasn't possible because I wasn't using the latest iTunes. I checked for updates to my computer and to iTunes - there are none pending. BUT I'm still on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 because I love it and am terrified of Yosemite, noting that nearly every reviewer who upgraded from SL reverted almost immediately. And this stupid iOS 9 iPad update is now forcing me to or forego being able to back up to my computer.

Much like the need to disable "Find My iPhone", it should have been disclosed that the "upgrade" is not compatible with 10.6.8. The closest Apple came to this disclosure was the light grey 6pt footer caveat that "Some features require iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan." Yeah. Some Features like sync and backup. Aaargh and Grrrrr.

I had to hold home and off button at same time until IPAD goes black. Before Apple comes up hold home button while plugging iPad into computer's USB port. Hopefully you will see screen showing USB is plugged in. From that point go into iTunes and find device and set up as new  but understand this will wipe all of the info off your IPAD so unless YOU HAVE A BACK UP ON LAPTOP, this may not be the best option. Your options are to wait for updated IOS9 which Apple doesn't seem to know when it will be ready. The second option is to set device up as new. But again without a backup any data, apps ... will be lost. Also in my case, even with the backup, I couldn't restore from iTunes (it will refreeze your screen) and had to synch all apps and music manually which could take hours (depending on how much you had on IPAD) and still may not recapture everything. I really hope this helps.
