Stuck on slide to upgrade iOS 9. Stuck on slide to upgrade. Essential notes not backed up or on iCloud. Stupido - I know. Cannot risk wiping. Got photos off. SOS! How long to proper fix - not wiping!

Got the same Problem with my iPhone 5s. I went to an Apple Store today and they told me to either backup and restore or restore without a backup because i've told them that i've tried to do a backup but it took over 5 hours and a stopped it.
Thank you Courcol, I can do as link suggests but am looking to see if I can take find my iPhone off in iCloud so back up prior to trying with current content, and to do anyback up whilst itunes cannot do backup as it reads my phone as not set up! My notes are so essential (big lesson here) I'd rather wait a few days to see if Apple find a way out of this other than loosing it all. My last backup up was 7 weeks ago. I've gone through to trust this computer, I can take screen shots, I've enabled the voice over, turned it on and off, tried old iphone update solutions - nothings worked.
Of course, I am presuming I can wipe and restore to information far too old to be of relevance, but I want to keep all thats on my iphone. At least messages and notes. I can get incoming calls too, when the screen is on hallo. Has no-one at all found a way through. What a nightmare to me at least. :-(
