Hi, anyone know when trying to do the sudo chown command i am getting an illegal user name prompt?

Is this related to: sudo chown -R username:staff /Users/username/?
Did you substitute the real username for username in both locations?

It is yes and yes i did for both, which is why I am a bit confused.
Be sure you are entering the line correctly. I'll exaggerate the spaces:
sudo chown -R username:staff /Users/username/
Press RETURN. Enter admin password when prompted. It will not echo to the Terminal window.
I take it that "floyd" is the admin account's username? I am not sure, but I don't think the "/" at the end should be there, i.e., sudo chown -R username:staff /Users/username
I have removed the / and it has worked!
