Sep 26, 2015 12:24 PM in response to ManuSchby DrFishAtTexasAM,If the phone is unlocked, A1688 would be the "global" phone. But usually, you will be asked to activate the phone in the retail store. So it depends which carrier you choose has the locked policy.

Sep 28, 2015 1:10 AM in response to ManuSchby gabrieljorby,It is supposed to be a global phone, but Apple now released the list of phones compatible with their China Mobile TD-LTE. The 1688 is not listed.
It will work however with China Unicom.

Oct 1, 2015 4:02 PM in response to ManuSchby MaxVA,Hi, just wondering if you have found out about using A1688 in China. I’m having a similar dilemma: I am not sure if it will work on China Mobile’s 3G or 4G network (or is there some licensing b/s that would prevent it). The thing is, I would prefer China Mobile as they have an excellent coverage, but am hesitant to test it by buying a 4G SIM and loading money.

Nov 2, 2015 10:42 PM in response to jonesie9by stevocomrie,I have just purchased an iPhone 6S 64Gb Model (A1688) from the Apple Store in Tokyo Japan. I came back to Shanghai and put my previous China Mobile MicroSim and it works perfectly with 4G on the China Mobile Network in Shanghai.

Jan 24, 2016 2:33 PM in response to ManuSchby tdwhittingham,Thanks for all the advice so far...
I'm going to China in a couple of months and have a UK bought iPhone 6S A1688.
Basically...what would people recommend I should get in terms of sim cards/pre paid so that it all works swimmingly when I get out there?
And on what network?
Thanks!!
