Loud Fan Noise & No Battery Information or Charging Light

Hello all

I turned my 14 month old MacBook Air this morning and disciovered a loud fan noise and cold air coming from the lid hinge. This started up okay but the battery icon in task bar has dissapered and also when using the mains charger this litte red/green indicator on the tip of charger is not lighting.

The fan is really loud and I have not ever seen or heard this issue at all?

I think I have a pending update for software? shall I proceed with this?

How bad is this issue and also how much is this going to cost to resolve?

My apple care has now expired so I have requested to make a call to apple tonight?

Anyone know what has caused this? how to resolve? and what to make sure this don't happen again?
