Help please! I'm trying to copy files from my windows laptops to my mac. I figured if I turned on file sharing I could just copy files into the shared folder.
I went to apple, system preferences, checked on file sharing, options, and here is the problem. There is a checkbox next to my account name, but I cannot check it!
Any suggestions would be great.

Can you check the box marked File Sharing on the left?
Yes, that was checked in the window prior to opening options.
And is that checkbox also grayed out? Is there a closed padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window? If so, click it and enter your password when prompted.

Thanks for sticking with me. The checkbox for File Sharing works fine, not greyed out. No padlock in the bottom right, just a question mark (help).
If SMB file sharing is active on the Windows computer, you don't need to activate it on the Mac. You should see the Windows computer as an icon in the sidebar of a Finder window, under Shared. Click that icon to mount the shared folder(s).
