I have the same issue. I try it since 20 hours and have downloaded the software 10 times and i always get the error "Unable to verify update".
I have restarted the iPhone 6 and the AWatch Sport 42mm Black several times. I have unpaired the AWatch from the iPhone 6 and paired it again.
But the error still occurs, this is not really funny.
Any other ideas?
Thx
Tobias
I had this issue and went crazy for a few days. I went through the download process a minimum of 12 times over 3 days..each taking around 2 hours to download despite my high speed connection. Apple believed there was something wrong with my iPhone because the download should not take 2 hours. Finally, I opened up the Watch App and did a full reset back to factory settings. When it came back up, I paired it with my phone as if it was new and was given an option to restore a backup from my phone (which I didn't know about). I restored the back up...then tried to update to OS2 and it worked! Took about 30 mins to download, verify, then install for another 20 mins or so. I did notice after that some apps would hang when launched so I had to uninstall them and re-install them. All is well now.
I’ve now been trying to update for 2 days. Tried all that has been suggested, iPhone 5S is on iOS 9.0.1, watch pass code is off, rebooted phone and watch, both watch and phone on charge, with well over 50% charge, reset network settings and connected to wifi, still it won’t get past “Verifying” stage. My last try was just before I went to bed, it's now 10 hours later and it’s still on “Verifying”! HELP
Please help if you can. Thank you.
Extremely frustrating, if this is going to be the Apple Watch update process, then I just as well take the watch back to Apple, life is too short, to waste endless hours on something that should be straight forward and simple. For someone who is an Apple fan and owns a watch, iPhone, several iPads, Apple TV and MacBook, its rapidly putting me off. Goodness knows how new comers to Apple products, must feel!
This screen capture is the he latest I've got, after again doing all the above again!
Try resetting your network connections on your iPhone (note: you will need to re-enter all saved Wi-Fi passwords afterwards):
On your iPhone: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If that does not help, try unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch and iPhone:
Thank you Jonathan for your reply, but as I have already said in my post, I have tried that several times without success. :-(
Its about to be thrown in the bin, joking aside, I really feel like doing that. :-(
Given the steps that you have already tried, I suggest that you contact Apple Support:
Thanks! This method helped me 😀 Worked like a charm!
PEOPLE, I FOUND THE SOLUTION!!! Read my posting above!!! 🙂
Still can't update, so will be making a visit to an Apple shop soon. Thanks to all that tried to help.

One more thing to try:
- Close the Apple Watch app along with all other open apps (double-press on the Home button, swipe up on the previews).
- Restart both devices, turning both off and then restarting your iPhone first. (To turn off the watch: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag the slider to turn off. To restart: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo).
