cannot find the Backups.backupdb folder anywhere on my Hard Drive?

Tried to upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite but Time machine backups prevent Yosemite upgrade. Turned off Time Machine but I cannot find the Backups.backupdb folder according to this article. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203322

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It would be at the top level. If it's not there, what exactly is the error message you get when you try to install?

So, I guess I can not update to Yosemite unless I wipe everything an do a clean install?

Go to the hard drive level where Applications, Library, System, and the Users are. It is normally there.
