The guys in the Apple Store recommended Porsche Design La Cie external backup drive. It stopped working and has not backed up in a month. Any suggestions?

Define "stopped working". Have you done any troubleshooting at all? Have you tried contacting Lacie for assistance with their product?
Sorry - I'm not so tech savvy. When I try to do a backup I get a message that indicates "Backup Disk Not Available - Try backing up again when "LaCie" is available"
I don't know what the backup disk is! I thought it was the external backup drive that I have attached to my computer. I tried unplugging everything and rebooting and still get the same message.
When I go to system preferences, it gives me the option to "remove disk" should I try that? I will also look for support from LaCie.
I must wait 48 hours for response from LaCie 😠
