Q: Downgrading back on Tiger 10.4 problems

Hi there,

I run PPC Power Mac G5 Dual 2.Ghz, with a Leopard 10.5.8. Now, I wanted to install back a Tiger 10.4 but I simly cannot.

I do have the original discs with the Mac Osx 10.4 that came with my Mac when I bought it. The discs are the grey ones if it's important.

There is written on disc 1:

Power Mac G5

Mac OS Install Disc 1

Mac OS version 10.4

AHT version 2.5

Disc version 1.0

and the disc 2 says:

Power Mac G5

Mac OS Install disc 2

Disc version 1.1

So, while rebooting computer I am holding C key as the description on one of the discs says and after a while a screen appears with this 'kernel panic' and that instruction to hold the power button to shut down the computer and so on.

When I do the Apple Hardware test (holding an option key while rebooting) I do receive a message that  The Apple hardware test doesn't support this machine. ??

It's kinda strange because when I bought my Mac I had A Tiger originally installed and only after some time I updated to Leopard.

There's seems no way back to Tiger anymore?? I used different hard drives I do have even a SSD Intel HDD it works perfectly with Leopard, Linux and any windows - I triedd before

I must say that I want a Tiger back because I do have another Mac with an Intel cpu but the PowerMac I use for some different purpose and I remember that The Tiger Os worked much smooth and faster than Leopard even with only original 512mb of memory factory installed. Now I do have 7,5GB of memory but still Leopard is slower than Tiger was.

Is there any chance to install Tiger back on.

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), PPC g5 dual 2.0 7.5GB of ram

    Sorry, little mistake,

    disc 1 is 2Z691-5348-A

    disc 2 2Z691-5008-A

but I looked closer at them and it seems like they are not couple. The apple both logos ( smiling face and an apple) they both differs one from another with a size, besides on disc 1 there is an info: 2005 Apple Computer, inc and so on

but on disc 2 it starts: 2004 Apple Computer, inc and so on.

It seems like the guy who sold me that PowerMac must have mixed cd's. At least I quess so.

SO anyway, according to what you wrote I will need another installation discs set to buy.

Good work, I think you've nailed the problem.

    Not the Gray install Discs...

    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mac+os+x+tiger+retail+10.4

    Highest it can run...

    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...

        *  Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor

    minimum system requirements

        * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)

        * DVD drive for installation

        * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)

    Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.

Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...
