Sep 22, 2015 1:25 PM in response to Kelly_36by Kappy,Several Possible Solutions for Slide to Upgrade Problem
Here is Apple’s suggested fix: If the Slide to Upgrade screen won't go away after you update to iOS 9 - Apple Support.
Here's another person's suggestion: How to backup photos from bricked iPhone (slide to upgrade) after upgrading to iOS 9.
Here are two YouTube video suggestions you can try:

If you have no success with the above then sign into your iCloud.com page, click on the Find My Phone icon. Click the Devices button, click on your device’s item, then remove if from the list if it is inactive. If your device is active when you click on it, then click on the Erase icon on the bottom right of your device’s displayed window. You should then try this:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
* If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
6. Use iTunes to restore the device as New.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device as New.

Sep 27, 2015 9:21 AM in response to Kelly_36by beachrider2000,I had the slide to upgrade issue with 2 phones, a 5s and a 6s. After working on the phone with apple support and going through the factory reset steps, the conclusion was to go to the Apple store. Before making the journey, I made one last factory reset attempt and noticed that the download icon in the upper right of itunes was still spinning when the phone came out of the factory reset mode and appeared to be trying to preform the update. I clicked on the download icon and noticed it had only downloaded 185M of the full 2G install. I waited 3 hours for the download to complete and re-tried the factory reset and voila, it worked. I was able to bring both phones back to life without wiping out all of my data.
It appears to me that part of the upgrade software is on the phone and after a certain amount of time it tries to apply the update. If the download is incomplete, then it fails. If you have a slow internet connection, it takes quite a while to download 2G of data. I am guessing that some people have eventually succeeded after several retries because each time they try the factory reset they are downloading more of the update file and eventually get the whole file.
Completing the download eventually worked for me and all is well. I hope this helps others!
