Q: Creating an additional iTunes library

I'm trying to create a 2nd iTunes library for my piano students to use. I want it to have limited content. Creating the library is no problem, but as soon as I created it, iTunes filled it with ALL my stuff. That seems to mean that I have sift through and delete the thousands of items I don't want my students to have access to. Is there a way to create a new library that's empty? Or some other way to achieve equivalent results?

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB ram

It sounds like you are signed into your iTunes account and have automatic downloads enabled.

I have no content checked for automatic downloads. I do have "Always check for available downloads" checked. But that should inform me and ask me if I want to download them, should't it?

After opening iTunes and choosing the new library, preferences shows the name of the library to be the same as my other library. They're both called "Kevin Guess's Library." I never chose that name for either library. I've realized it is not copying everything from my original library, but apparently only items I've bought form the Apple Store, as they all have the cloud symbol beside them and none of them are items I know I bought elsewhere or created myself.

The cloud means you have an available download.

I do not have an iTunes Store account and no purchases so I do not know exactly how the interface works.  For some things in iTunes I know each library is specific, but for other things settings are identical for all libraries and maybe your available downloads show regardless of which library you use.  You may either have to disable them there or set up a separate user account on your computer where you do not use the iTunes Store.  If you want to do that let us know and we can help you.  It is possible to share media between accounts and with a single user on a machine it can work fairly well.
