5th generation ipod stuck on lock screen after updating it to 8.1.3

Okay so I just recently updated my 5th generation IPod to the 8.1 update. It downloaded fine well it restarted like it should...but, now when I try to swipe to the right to try to unlock my ipod it wont do anything. It's just on a white screen with the words "slide to update." How am I supposed to update it if it won't slide to the right?! Plus it won't turn off, just lock. Any body know how to fix this without going somewhere to clean the ipod and deleting the data completely?
