Since I updated my phone it has become very laggy, randomly exits out of things, I can't reply to some text messages and I can't go on Facebook messenger unless I'm on wifi. Why is this happening? I never had this problem until I updated. I'm very annoyed.
iPhone 4
Go to messenger app in iPhone settings and turn cellular data on. Setting>messenger>Cellular data . Not sure why it was off but it's been happening to some.
You're at the likely end of useful life of an iPhone 4. Let's face it, iPhone 4 was released in June of 2010. In cell phone years, this is a long time ago. The OS on your phone can't be updated and as time goes on fewer and fewer apps will work on your phone. Maybe Santa could put a newer phone in your Christmas stocking this year?
It may be more than one issue. First, try resetting the phone by holding the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears.
For the Facebook issue go to Settings/Cellular, and make sure that the switch for Facebook messenger is turned on.
If you go to another discutions in 'using iphone' community, you will see a lot of posts with the same problem of different apps ... Not just facebook and snapchat. I read a post from a guy who said that google mapps and many other apps can't acces data ... So, in my opinion... It's apple problem from

This issue is not new to iOS 9. There have been a few reports of it in iOS 8 and iOS 7. I don't remember further back than that. First try a reset by holding the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears. If that does not resolve the problem go to Settings/General/Reset - Reset all settings. You will not lose any data, but it will set all of the values in the Settings app back to their defaults.
ADDENDUM: Also make sure you have the latest updates for any apps with this problem.
If Reset All Settings did not fix it, connect the phone to iTunes on your computer, click on its icon and click the Restore button. When prompted restore your backup. If the problem is still present restore again, and set up as a new phone. Then add your apps back without restoring the backup. This last step is guaranteed to fix it.

So you restored iOS and set it up as a new phone. You did not restore any backups. You installed the Facebook app and nothing else and the problem was still present. Is this exactly what you did?
I Have tried.. every time I turn my cellular on for Facebook messenger it turns back off again, it's annoying me so much!!

Yes I did the reset. Now I cannot delete my emails.. What is going on with my phone?! Even as I'm typing this it is so slow!
it's a common problem on ios9 and apple can't fix it. i read some articles here with same problems and there are people who contacted apple support and they don't have a solution ...
Its ridiculous and annoying! They need to update it and fix it!

What did Facebook say when you asked them about the problem? It's their app, not Apple's.
