Airplay from Safari stops when iPhone/iPad sleeps

So I updated my iPhone and iPad to iOS 9. Ever since doing so, I have been having an annoying issue with AirPlaying videos from Safari to Apple TV. When I Airplay the video from Safari to ATV, it works, but as soon as I lock my iPhone/iPad the Airplay stops. Is it just me or anybody else with the same issue? I'm not really keen on leaving my iPhone on all the time, I would like the video to play through AirPlay from Safari on my iPhone even when it is locked.

Is this how it is going to be in iOS 9 now or it's a glitch.

Note: Apple TV is running on the latest iOS too.

I just updated iPad Air 2 to IOS 9.0.2 and same problem with Apple TV Airplay stops. Then on a lark while video was playing in Safari I did the 5 finger pinch - go to home screen, then I closed the protective case which puts iPad to sleep and the video continued to play on Apple TV. I didn't do a lot of testing but I tried it several times and it works.

Thanks for your reply. I have one of those heavy-duty iPad case which doesn't have one of those covers which puts iPad to sleep. I'll buy one and see if it makes the difference. However, I tried it from Google Chrome and the video continued to play when my iPhone went to sleep. I have only tested this once, will do further testing and keep you posted.
