This might be a dumb question, but I haven't got the the 'bold underline italics' options at the bottom of the text formatting pop-up, as it appears in all the articles about the new Notes app. Has anybody got any idea?

Yes, there are no dumb questions. In the text formatting pop-up do you mean the below screenshot ? If so I don't have it either. What articles are you seeing this in ?

Yes, I've got the same as you. But all the articles I've seen since iOS 9 was released give screenshots like this from MacWorld:
So I must be missing something or maybe it's a regional thing?
Sorry for the delay. Thanks for the screenshot, it sure helps. I checked settings and couldn't find anything. Then I checked the iPad User Guide and unfortunately they didn't have a photo of the text window.. This is just a guess it might have been in beta that didn't make it to the final update. It looks useful, I wouldn't doubt we'll see it in a update.
I just thought I was missing something or it needed switching on in some obscure part of the settings. As you say, it does look like a useful feature and hopefully it will eventually become available.
I'm pretty sure you didn't miss anything but if it does turn up I'll be back in touch. 🙂
If you select the text, you get a pop-up that allows bold, italics or normal text - as in iOS8
Correct. Some articles are also showing a second BIU in the text formatting pop-up. Do you have the one in the screenshot below ?
No, I get the iOS 8 option (but don't know how to take a screenshot to share!)

Have what you want to show on the screen.
Press and release the home and power buttons at the same time, your iPad will flash. Be sure not to hold the buttons down, just press and rellease.
Write the text of your reply.
Move the cursor down two rows by tapping the return key
Tap the camera icon in the edittor bar above.
Tap choose file.
Tap Photo library..
Tap All photos or Screenshots.
Tap the screenshot you want. The most recent is in the lower right
Tap Insert image.
It's a lot of steps, just do them one at a time and let me know if you need help. I'll add a screenshot. 🙂

Thanks for explaining how to do a screenshot - simple when you know how! Hang on while I try to add screenshots using ipad as Win7 laptop won't do it in Chrome!
Couldn't see how to edit previous post, so here are the three screenshots:
1) tap word & then tap "Select" or "Select All"
2) Tap "BIU"
3) Tap the text appearance that you need
