Apple TVIntermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Sep 23, 2015 12:54 PM in response to Winston Churchillby Alisondiana22,HI winston, thanks for the reply. It's not intermittrnt but every time it goes off to sleep and then try to use again. Eg we will restart tonight and will work fine until tomorrow when we will have to restart again to get sound. The picture transfers no problem.
WE realised we haven't updated it for a while so we are trying that.
IT says it's got 83 minutes remaining but has said that for a while. may have to leave over night.
THanks

Apple TVThe very fact it says it will take 83 minutes to update suggests to me there's an issue with the network somewhere.
