Q: Why do I need to restart Apple TV every time I use it in order for it to have sound? It shows the video but wil only play sound if we unplug it and plug back in

every time we use Apple TV through iPad or iPhone for watching videos there is no sound unless we restart/ unplug it for a few seconds. It's obviously connected ok as works fine once it's restarted. Thanks.

    Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

     

    You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.

     

    Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.

     

    There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

    HI winston, thanks for the reply. It's not intermittrnt but every time it goes off to sleep and then try to use again. Eg we will restart tonight and will work fine until tomorrow when we will have to restart again to get sound. The picture transfers no problem.

     

    WE realised we haven't updated it for a while so we are trying that.

     

    IT says it's got 83 minutes remaining but has said that for a while. may have to leave over night.

    The very fact it says it will take 83 minutes to update suggests to me there's an issue with the network somewhere.
