Do the songs play in iTunes on the computer?

Does any media like apps or photos sync to the device?

You said you restored the device. If yo only restored from backup then restore to factory settings/new iPod

- Are other iPod touches, iPhones or iPads correctly identified?

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reboot the computer

- Try another USB port

- Try another cable.

- Try on another computer

- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
