Mac OSX 10.6.8 -- iTunes 11.4 -- iPhone 4s (which had iOS 7.1.2). *** can we even look at device in iTunes when requires iTunes 12! Does iOS 9.0.1 allow us to connect with iTunes 11.4 and Restore from Backup?

If we attempted update to iOS9 on an iPhone 4S (previously running iOS 7.1.2) and had to Restore it as New, therefore ruining the phone, but stuck at iTunes 11.4, how the * are we supposed to update to iOS 9.0.1 and be able to SEE IT IN ITUNES 11.4 when you require ITUNES 12 !!??!! You people need to amend this by the end of the week.

Situation is this: Mac OSX 10.6.8 with ITUNES 11.4. Have an iPhone 4s which had (iOS 7.1.2). No I cannot update my Mac to Yosemite.

Made a Backup and Archived it. Now that we have crashed through putting iOS 9 on the iPhone 4s which wiped it clean, APPLE FAILED to automatically warn or lockout that ITUNES 12 is required to even see an iOS9 phone. Well guess what. I can't go to iTunes 12. So is iOS 9.0.1 going to work around that ? What are we supposed to do? Throw out our hardware every year and buy new physical hardware ? HOW THE * IS THAT EARTH FRIENDLY APPLE !!!

I need solutions not assumptions. 😟

iPhone 4S, iOS 9, Previously iOS 7.1.2 just before.

I had a similar situation - although I'm not sure my solution will help you.

The macmini with my iPhone backup is running Snow Leopard and my iPhone was on IOS7 - after hitting the 'slide to upgrade' problem with upgrading to IOS9 I found that the iTunes version I'd used to back up was not compatible with IOS9. Upgraded iTunes as far as I could but then found that IOS9 needs a version of iTunes that will not run on Snow Leopard.

I happened to have a partition with Lion installed so copied my IOS backups over to it and much to my surprise found that the updated iTunes could read my backups … although I still had the issue with the upgrade getting stuck.

Today I have done the procedure to restore my backup to a 'blank' iPhone running IOS 9.01 and it does seem to have worked - my message history is there, my photos are there, my mail account setups are there, calendar and contacts syncing properly…. However I do not have my purchased apps on the phone - I assume due to the fact that I had never synced with the iTunes library I used to restore. If I had pulled across the entire library and updated it for the new version of iTunes I suspect it would have installed them ...

as it is I'm fairly happy and will use the opportunity to just reinstall the apps I still need… the important stuff all has data in dropbox.

I've sure learned a lot about how an iPhone backup actually works (or not)y in the last few days…

Thank you Daisy535. I too saved my iOS 7 backup and archived it. So just maybe, if I can get on a Mac with iTunes 12, plug in an external drive with the backup and update my iPhone to iOS 9.0.1 (unfortunately), just maybe I can run Restore from Backup and it will put on what I had!

thank you for your input, keep in touch and I'll let you know what my phones outcome is.

DI'd your iPhone stay at 9.0.1 so far?
