Will opening the bottom case void my warrant?

I literally just bought this computer about a week ago, and my little brother got somethung stuck inside (fell through the back vent) i tried shaking it out but didnt work can i open the bottom case to take out the little piece that fell in there? I do not plan on removing anything or upgrading anything just removing the small piece that fell inside

Yes, you can open the case without voiding your warranty as long as you don't mess anything up when removing and replacing the bottom. You will need a special screwdriver to take out the screws. iFixit.com has these available if you visit their Web site and check out any of their Repair guides for your model Mac.


Or, if you have an Apple Store nearby, ask one of their Genuis Bar associates to do this for you.

You haven't told us what sub-model on the MBP you have. Some models have a user-removeable back panel; others do not and removing those requires breaking a glued seam.


You say yours is new; the only model still in the line with a user-removeable back panel is the non-Retina 13-inch model.

Remember we are all end-users like you and none of us are Apple employees/spokespersons. None of us knows for sure what Apple warranty policies tolerate so you should ask Apple where you bought the computer

The iFixit.com web site shows that both the current retina models, 13" & 15", have bottom covers fastened by pentalobe fasteners. I am not aware of any Apple notebook that has a bottom panel glued on.
