Exchange email issues after iOS 9 update

I updated to iOS 9 and then iOS 9.01 this past week. After updating to iOS 9, I'm noticing my Exchange email is not functioning properly. For example, when I delete emails from my inbox it still shows I have unread messages in my inbox. However there aren't really any unread emails. The email icon doesn't display the number of "new" emails, but when you click on the icon it appears there are unread emails beside the inbox.

I have tried deleting and re-installing the Exchange account, and that works fine until I try to delete emails from my inbox from a non-work or non-home location. I have also tried to mark all emails as unread in my inbox, and then try to mark all as read to see if that corrects the problem but it doesn't.

Has anyone else noticed Exchange email issues after the update to iOS 9 and if so, please tell me how to correct. Thanks.

I think I may have found a solution to the problem. I believe the WiFi Assist is causing the Exchange issues. WiFi Assist is automatically turned on when users upgrade to iOS 9. I disabled WiFi Assist and I have not encountered any more Exchange issues. Will continue to monitor.

Yes, I saw the icon problem and also, I can't delete or move emails. If you delete it, it just comes back eventually.

I set up iOS Outlook and its a nice app, but since its not the "primary" mail app fot a lot of services, I hate to duplicate services and have two email apps. Others have reported it too, without solution. It started happening after the last few developer betas.

Issue went away for 2 days and has come back again. Exchange server account on ios has one more unread email the all inbox and doesn't match exchange:

Example:

PC OUTLOOK UNREAD WORK EMAIL COUNT: 52

IOS UNREAD WORK EMAIL COUNT: 53

IOS UNREAD ALL INBOXES COUNT: 54

IPhone and IPad on iOS 9.0.2, freshly formatted following other issues with update counts:

Conclusion: IOS 9 email client is buggy as ****!!! Active sync is working fine on all pre iOS 9 devices, search in iOS is also not bringing up complete results and occasionally crashes devices.

Try this: Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and tap your Exchange mail account. Turn the Mail switch to OFF (white side showing). Go back out to your Home screen(this part is critical!) and power your phone off. Power it back on and go back into your settings and turn the Mail switch back on. This worked for me to get a phantom email count of 1 off of my Exchange mail.
