Q: no option to convert external hard drive to fat32 in disk utility

Trying to install Windows 7 on my mac using this guide: Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support

It says to first convert usb to fat32. When I open disk utility it only shows this screen:

Any help is appreciated.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

I got this result as well for a USB drive that was encrypted (FAT options not available).

I erased and formatted to unencrpyted (Mac OS Extended(Journaled)).

Now when I select Erase, the FAT format options show up.

Strange behaviour...

You can also try Terminal command diskutil eraseDisk, which seems to handle it better than the Disk Utility UI.
