Q: Apple Watch activity does not always calculate distance during workouts since iOS9 came out. Even with no change in settings on the watch or phone since the updates

Ever since I installed iOS9, my Apple Watch does not always track distance during workouts. I have also updated the Watch to Watch OS2, but that has not fixed the problem. It tracked just fine all day yesterday, then today it would not track distance, speed, pace, anything related to moving.

I have verified that all of the settings are as they need to be on the watch and phone as far as motion and location. I have also done soft resets on both the phone and watch, as well as a hard reset on the phone.

Tonight when restarting the watch, it froze on the Apple logo, and it took three resets to get it to boot back up, after which it eventually began tracking distance again.

Any advice to fix this is appreciated!

I've had (and seen) related issues that were resolved by Restoring the phone (in my case, workout activity would not sync to the phone at all).

If you decide to try that, do it this way - safest way:

    1. Unpair the watch - that creates a backup on the phone

    2. Connect the phone to iTunes and do a full, encrypted backup (encryption keeps activity data and other secure info)

    3. Restore the phone as a new phone

    4. When the Restore is complete, in iTunes, do File, Devices, Restore from backup, using the backup you made at step 2

    5. Re-pair the watch.

Hopefully, that will get things back to where they should be
