Q: Have one contact with an iPhone who I cannot text to. I deleted the contact and re-entered and still does not work

I have a contact who I cannot send text messages to.  In contacts the message symbol is not there.  I have an old string that I can use, but if I start a new message string it comes out green and cannot be delivered.  Contact has an iPhone.
