Dass Apple und Google nicht die besten Freunde sind, ist ja kein Geheimnis.

Oct 5, 2015 3:07 PM in response to Kilgore-Troutby Snauzoo,I 'm not too lazy to translate but I am too lazy to swap keyboards on an iPad to type French.
But my point was not that, it was answers would be more useful in English. Especially in the US where no one speaks French natively. I only learned it from living there. I studied Spanish in school. However, that doesn't work well in the US. The language from south of the border has very little resemblance to the language spoken in Spain.
I just think we would be better off if we could try replying in a common tongue. I do appreciate the tips even though it still did not work. And it is documented as an Apple iOS 9 issue all over the place, and occurs when a safari search yields a result using Google search where the searched for terms is contained in a book. I may have mentioned that it is not a problem on my iOS 8.x devices I have yet to upgrade.

Which would be valid if this were a US only site. But it isn't.

Oct 29, 2015 10:22 AM in response to Philippefromsaintomerby TitiCarabi,You say that you are able to visualize properly google books in Chrome.
It's not true according to my tests with iOS 9.1 on both iPad 2 and iPhone 5.
The problem seems to be in the deep layers of the display software for iOS 9.1 !
This affects both browser, it seems.

Nov 11, 2015 8:00 PM in response to Philippefromsaintomerby MaryAnn24,Hi, I read this thread with great interest, not only because I also have this same problem but also because I know some French, and a lot of German, and so was thrilled to see the mix of languages. I have this problem ever since updating my iphone yesterday to iOS 9.1. (Strangely, when I was previously using 9 I did not have the problem, though people here have experienced it starting then.) I love looking at google book results to my searches and will miss it sorely, and am also using it for research. I appreciate very much, Philippefromsaintomer, your contributions - I read your reply in English on a different thread and was startled when I saw you writing in French, and I thought it was fun. I unfortunately don't practice French very much and lack vocabulary, so had to look up the term "plein écran" (which I really should have guessed from context!) Also, I thought the google translation from French was actually pretty good, certainly good enough. Anyway, it is very interesting what you show there about going to full screen -- if you are seeing that solving the problem then it obviously works, but I can't get that option on my phone. I have an iPad too but can't try it out right now because my iPad is currently disabled since yesterday when I tried to update it to 9.1 and got caught in a loop (seeing Genius bar later this week). I will see if I can get your solution to work on the iPad, but as far as I can tell it's not possible on the iPhone (tried Chrome too). I can copy the link into a new window, but of course that doesn't help. I wonder if there is any chance that the *next* update will fix the problem.

Nov 21, 2015 3:21 AM in response to Rollschuhfanby JamesMMcArdle,A solution: go into Settings>Safari>Advanced and turn off Javascript. This gives you the whole page were 'preview' is available in Google Books. The view is much simplified, with no zoom or magnify buttons showing, and searching for a word will only find the first entry, so not terribly helpful in that regard. But at least you can read whole pages!

Apple MusicThe model looks basically the same as mine. After some fiddling with inspiration and help from Philippe's earlier comments, I actually made it work.
- Use Chrome as browser. (Not Safari.)
- Make the search in Chrome. (Do not try to copy any URL from Safari.)
- Hold the finger on the search result and open in new tab. (Do not try to open in the same tab.)
- Click on the maximize/full screen icon (as Philippe shows above). The icon may actually be hidden by a yellow info strip. Just tap it anyhow.
- The book displays in a readable way.
This is the only scenario I have found working.
Some tests, that led nowhere: It does not matter if you are in landscape or portrait mode. It does not matter if you are signed in or not.
Merci, Philippe. C'était très utile!
