iPhone 4s: is it too late to update to 8.4.1?

Hello. I tried searching for an answer but couldn't find anything. I'm not even sure how to phrase the question, to be honest.

Here's the deal: I have an iPhone 4s that's currently on 8.2. I want to upgrade to 8.4.1 since I've read that the latter is a better option than the former for the iPhone 4s. However, the only download showing up on my phone is for iOS 9, which I do NOT want for obvious reasons. Is there any way to go from 8.2 to 8.4.1 or am I stuck with iOS 9 as my only option? Is 8.4.1 simply lost to me at this point?

Sorry you're too late, if you update it will be to the latest IOS and not ios 8.4.1

The update is always only to the current level which is now 9.0.1

What are the "obvious reasons" that you don't want to update to iOS 9?

Since Apple only supports upgrading to the most recent version of the iOS that he device supports, I suggest you start a new question that gives a good title to a specific problem. Then in the body of the thread describe the problem in detail, tell us what steps you have tried so far to correct the problem, what happened, and what error messages you received.

Hi, thanks for the reply. What about installing the 8.4.0 IPSW file using iTunes? Is that an option? Or does my phone have to be jailbroken for that?

As for reasons not to update to iOS9, how about the fact that it's turning iPhone 4s models into overpriced paperweights? This is known.

Good point. I've no idea. I've found a bunch of IPSW files for download from a site called ios8release.com but I have no idea if those files are signed by Apple or not, or even if they're from Apple.

then they are not and if you attempt to download and have issues then Apple will not assist

Downgrading is not supported accept whilst the older IPSW are still signed ,which is a very short window

So I would follow Ralph's advice
