Q: My son's iPod Touch 5th Generation had a recent update that he approved.  Now the Ipod won't allow us to go to the home screen.  It states that update was completed, but that we need to complete a couple of more steps. It won't allow us to continue

iPod Touch 5th Generation

We approved an update that when it was complete stated that we need to complete a couple of more steps to finish set-up(?).

then it goes to a white screen that says "slide to upgrade" at the bottom, but will not allow us to slide the screen.

We have powered down a couple of times.  Each time a white apple on a black screen appears when we power-up, then the screen reads "slide to upgrade" at the bottom.  When you slide it asks for our passcode.  When the passcode is entered the white screen with the black apple appears along with a progress bar underneath the apple.  The progress bar shows progress about 1/3 of the way and then disappears and takes us to a screen that say "Hello" and at the bottom it says "slide to setup".  When we slide the screen it requests our passcode.  When entered it takes us to a screen that reads: Update Completed, Your iPod touch was updates successfully.  There are just a few more steps to follow, and then you're done! with a Continue tab.  When you select continue it takes you back to the white screen  that reads "slide to upgrade" at the bottom, but is frozen each time and will not allow the function to work.  We have no idea what to do from here.  The same thing keeps happening over and over.
