When I sync my iPod 5 I have just under 30g in other. What is other and how do I get this storage back?

An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
