How can I print Word address labels on Pages?

I have several templates from Word anded would like to print them with Pages.

When I opened the template (30 labels) with Pages, the vertical alignment was off by one row. That is, the city and state lines on row 1 are now on row 2

How can I align the labels vertically?

I don't want to fool with the Avery website if I don't have to.

Select one label, and in the Format Panel's Table tab, make certain that Table Name is unchecked. The difference between checked and unchecked is that extra row that your labels are pushed down to accommodate the table name row.

Neither Pages '09 or Pages v5.5.3 were designed to have fine-grain label control. I actually downloaded the free Avery Design & Print software, and it works well on Yosemite.

The free LibreOffice Writer has robust built-in support for Avery Labels. It is as simple as File ▸ New ▸ Labels to get a dialog box where you can set the Label vendor, label type, design, and fine tune label formatting.

The Table Name box was unchecked when it printed incorrectly.

I downloaded the Avery template, and the result was worse. It was not only offset horizontally but vertically as well!

When I got my 4th IMac several months ago, I downloaded LibreOffice, and the new machine began acting a little strange. In the end, that machine failed, and Apple replaced it. I elected not to reinstall LibreOffice.

Thank you for your help! I don't think this was meant to be.

LibreOffice installs only in your Applications folder, and therefore, had no basis for causing issues leading to your former Mac replacement by Apple. I have used LibreOffice since their spin off from OpenOffice, and have never had issues with it on Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, Linux, or Windows 7. It is simply a tool — when all else fails with Pages — that I proactively use to stop flailing an cussing to just get stuff done.

If you do not want to install it, thats fine.

Avery label templates are a grid of rounded, grouped by row, transparent shapes that are overlayed by a table whose transparent cells are approximately sized to those of the shapes. By default, when one clicks inside one of these table cells, the text is aligned middle, instead of at the top-left corner where one would expect.
