I cannot open any site related to Google (Google search, Google Drive, Google Sites and so forth) with Chrome on my iPad or iPhone, when they are using my wifi router
Symptoms:
I cannot open any site related to Google (Google search, Google Drive, Google Sites and so forth) with Chrome on my iPad or iPhone, when they are using my wifi router. All other addresses (URLs) in Chrome and other search engines work fine, but the Google sites will not open.
Safari will not open the Goofle sites either if it uses Google as default search engine. And if I use Bing, I still can't access Drive for example.
There are three laptops connected to the same router. Two are hard wired in, and the other is connected by wifi. ALL work properly and connect to Google sites with Chrome. An Android tablet connected to the same wifi works properly, and connects to Google sites with Chrome.
So it is only the iPad (iPad Air) and iPhone 4S that have problems, and only connecting to Google sites.
On the iPhone the error message is “SSL connection error. Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication that you don’t have’
On the iPad the message is “This webpage is not available. ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED
The webpage at (gives link to Google search) might be temporarily down or it may have moved to a new address.”
The iPhone has 3G, and when the wifi is off, it connects to Google sites with no difficulty.
Both iPad and iPhone also work as expected when connected to a different wireless network (a neighbor's).
So the problem seems to be between the iPad and iPhone, and my router and Chrome, but only affecting Google sites, and only a problem with the iPad and iPhone and not with any of the other equipment (desktops or Android)
Essentially the router works just fine, except that it returns the above errors when asked by the iPad or iPhone about sites relating to Google.
This has happened in the past 24 hours
What I have done, with no effect:
- Turned iPad and iPhone off and on ( many times)
- Rebooted iPad and iPhone (holding down both buttons for a hard reset) - many times
- Told both to forget the Network and rejoined it
- Renewed network lease on both
- Rebooted router (on a number of occasions)
Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received!
