charger problems

My magsafe charger suddenly stopped working on my macbook pro 2009. I have tried everything in the trouble shoot and I cannot perform the smc as the buttons I need to press do not work on my keyboard anymore. I'm not sure if my battery or my charger is shot or neither. Any help appreciated.
