Apparently it is called the "Depot Repair Program" - and is VERY obscure... this thread is the only one that references it by name and discusses "flat rate repair" as if it really exists

CCC is off to a good start. Apple sends the computer to a centrral refurbishment facility and that is the only downside I see. It takes around one working week instead of an overnight repair as you usually get with a repair in an Apple Store. However the cost saving it worth it to me.

Other issues:

1) As far as I can tell, this is only available to US and Canadian users.

2) You need to do the Depot repair within the regular time frame of Apple service--usually within the first five years of ownership. I had 2007 MacBook Pro that succumbed to the "Nvidea Curse" (defective video chipset) in 2013 and was told a depot repair was unavailable for that model.

Over the ~15 years I have volunteered hereI have seen numerous reports of people having this service done and all were very pleased with the results.
