After the update siri no longer recognizes emails or phone numbers for text messages

After the update to IOS 9, Siri no longer can text contacts. I am still able to say call <Contact name> and it works, but when I say text <contact name> it returns, "no phone number or email found for <contact name>. Who would you like to text?"

Obviously the contact has the info needed or it wouldn't be able to call, and it worked fine up until the update.

any help?
