Why don't I have a start of project marker.

I don't have a start of project marker so I always have to start on the first downbeat. I have one for the end marker, but no the beginning.

This makes things complicated when I want to use pick ups or use the notation.

Measures are relative and can be numbered to anything. Your pick up measure has to be in 1. So say you have 3 rests and a quarter note pickup in measure one, then song starts on measure 2. Just shorten the region by 3 beats (or cut the first 3 beats out) .... That's it! If you want measure numbers to read correctly just set offset by one in the score. Then the downbeat measure will be labeled as 1

Strongly disagree. Moving the project start marker in the negative direction will cause all other sorts of other problems. I would never never recommend that unless you have a strog desire to post issues on this board.

also if you have a full score and different staves have different pick up measures your method will not work.

Cutting a a region or shortening it is no more complex than moving the project start marker.

you can move the start marker to the right, just never never never never to the left.

The above should be considered experienced sound advice.

Indyuser is absolutely correct....

Moving the Start Project marker negatively prior to (or in fact to/from any other point than...) 1.1.1.1 can often cause all kinds of issues and is not recommended...

Given you know how experienced David is...

From David's post on LPH.... that Indyuser linked to...

My workaround for the past 10 years or so has been to NEVER, EVER have the project start marker at any position other than 1 1 1 1 (some of the issues also occur when the project start marker is after 1 1 1 1).

Anyhow... To force the Start Marker to appear....after making sure that the Advanced Tools are all checked....

Set the Playhead to Bar 1, then click on the Playhead Position (Bars) field in the Control Bar and drag to a negative value. The start icon will magically appear

Thanks to hipwazee for this useful tip....

However, I still wouldn't recommend moving the Start Marker from anything other than 1.1.1.1 because of the known buggy behaviors that can ensure...

Cheers..

Thanks!

This doesn't work either. I can drag it to any positive value but I can't go negative. Not sure if this is related but when I look at the time view at bar 1 this is displayed:

Edit: Also, Indyusers method is working, but I would like to have my arrange window reflect my notation for organization reasons. Thats why I typically moved the start marker on previous versions of Logic (and I have never had a problem). I like being able to look at a printed score and have my measure numbers reflect that in the session

Make sure the Use SMPTE view offset option, isn't checked...

Note: However, it seems you may have already dragged the Start Marker back in the past which could then be causing this sort of issue....

Once done, its a pain to get it fixed again.... so if you cannot resolve it... then I suggest you may want to create a new project and via the STI functionality, import each track into the new project

(STI works the same way in LPX as it did in LP9)
