That depends on what Snow Leopard install DVD you have.
If you have the gray one that is hardware specific, it will only install on the hardware it was created for originally.
If it is the generic one with the snow leopard on it then it can be installed.
Thank you. I had it through App store; is that a problem? How can I do?
If you got it through the online Apple Store, it’s generic.
If you got it with a Mac, it’s specific to that Mac model.
It isn’t possible to have gotten Snow Leopard from the Mac App Store.

I am sorry It is mountain lion!
That does not sound correct.
Mountain Lion was never available on a CD/DVD.
Please verify exactly what you have so that we can help you.
Mountain Lion is incompatible with your Mac and seems to no longer be available.

I start from the beginning: can I upgrade from 10.4.11 in any way- even oaying for it
thank you
You can upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.6.3 by purchasing it from the online Apple Store, then update from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 from Software Update or Apple’s Support site, and may then be able to upgrade from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5 by purchasing a code from the online Apple Store and redeeming it into the Mac App Store. Many people reported that Lion has disappeared from the Purchases list, so the last step may no longer work.
