A:

the most general way is to save it to the desktop and then import to Photos from there - you do not ever "save" photos to Photos, you always import them

Control (right) - click on the image in the email body and select Export to Photos from the contextual menu:
The photo will show up in at the bottom of the All Photos window but NOT in the Last Import album.

Never could get the "Export to Photos" to show up.
